MIKE’S WINE NOTES:
Mike Davies – Co-founder Greenskin Wine, winemaker and wine packaging specialist.
This exquisite wine was made by the talented winemaker Michael Webster of Hay Shed Hill Winery (Margaret River, WA), but due to their strong connection with West Cape Howe Wines (Great Southern, WA), we were very lucky to secure this very special small parcel of fruit from the Lansdale Vineyard for Michael to weave his vinous magic upon.
As anticipated, the lead-up to the 2023 vintage in the Great Southern had good rainfall and very favourable conditions. As harvest approached the region stayed relatively cool with minimal rain, which is especially beneficial for early picked varieties like Pinot Noir.
The culmination of these factors has given rise to a wine that stands as a stellar example of why Pinot Noir thrives in the Great Southern region, thanks to its greater distance from the ocean, suitable soils, and much cooler nights.
- Colour: Crimson with light pink edges.
- Bouquet: Cherries, sherbet, charcuterie, and forest berries with a lifted fragrance of rose petals.
- Palate: Smooth and mouth-filling fusion of strawberries & cream, light mushroom and hints of truffle, beautifully supported by subtle oak tannin that dries and lingers.
As one of my all-time favorite varieties, I’m seriously impressed with this wine and have been having a blast pairing it most pretty much anything! Some favourite stand-outs are grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, roast duck (a match made in heaven) and of course cheese.
We do not have vast quantities of this wine, so if you love Pinot Noir, be sure to nab yours before it sells out.

Huon Hooke is a leading Australian wine writer, critic, educator and show judge, best known for his columns in Sydney Morning Herald Good Food and Good Weekend.
Medium-deep and bright red with a good tinge of purple; aromas of cherry, plum and freshly turned earth, hints of smoky oak and five spice, while the palate is medium weighted and soft textured, with drying silty tannins in harmony. It’s moderately varietal and certainly identifiable as pinot noir.
Good balance and length. A remarkable wine in such humble packaging.

Greenskin Wine just got Greener with new Packaging!
We’re proud to prioritise environmental sustainability by making the switch to brown cardboard packaging for our 2023 Pinot Noir and all new wines coming online.
Not only does it reduce the demand for virgin resources, but it also minimises chemical usage and promotes easier recyclability, helping us all sip more sustainably!

The nights have cooled down and at home the wood heater has been fired up. Sitting in front of that fire with a slighty chilled glass of this Pinot is bliss as far as I am concerned. And in two weeks time I’m off to the Big Red Bash. This Pinot is coming along for the ride and will be consumed in-front of the campfire each evening. It is a very smooth and enjoyable red. 10 out of 10 from me.
