In Margaret River, Chardonnay is a very challenging grape variety to grow. The blustery winds of spring coincide with flowering, which isn’t very good news. Each flower is the beginning of a bunch of grapes, so if they get blown off, there is a direct reduction in the crop. In some seasons, some winemakers report crops being so low that they have to send out a search party to look for the grapes! However, the good news is that once the fruit is picked, it is of generally high quality, making it a pleasure to turn it into the great wines that the region is recognised for.

For our Vintage 2021 offering, we have been very lucky to have been able to secure some excellent Chardonnay from our friends at McHenry Hohnen in the southern part of the Margaret River region.

• Colour – Pale Straw with fresh green tints.
• Bouquet – Stone fruit, rockmelon and mountain creek minerality offset by some limey lift, spicy oak and fragrant vanilla.
• Palate – Peaches and pears entwined with citrus fresh acidity and some vanilla and spice from the oak handling make this chardonnay a beautiful medium bodied savoury and very stylish wine.
  

SPECIAL NOTES:

• VEGAN WINE – This wine has been made by the very talented winemaker Japo Dalli Cani. His expert touch with this premium fruit has resulted in a magnificent finished product that required no fining agents (such as Casein, Egg albumin or Isinglass) which are commonly used in the winemaking process. Fresh and fruit driven aromas, nectarine, citrus, guava and melon skin. Fresh and crunchy on the palate, citrus and just-ripe pineapple, there’s a touch of sappy leafiness as well. Easy drinking, good length and mouthfeel.
