MIKE’S WINE NOTES:
Mike Davies – Co-founder Greenskin Wine, winemaker and wine packaging specialist.
Margaret River might not be the first region that comes to mind for Syrah (or Shiraz), but it’s increasingly proving its potential, particularly with vineyards thriving in the cooler southern pockets (where this wine was grown and made). Our 2021 Syrah exemplifies the elegance and character that Margaret River can bring to this classic varietal.
Crafted by the talented winemaker Japo Dalli Cani, this wine is inspired by the refined styles of the south of France, yet it boasts the vibrant purity and aromatic depth that only Margaret River’s pristine grape growing environment can offer.
The 2021 growing season brought its own complexities, but Syrah’s later ripening nature ensured the fruit reached its full potential, delivering exceptional quality. This wine beautifully captures the region’s unique terroir, showcasing the mastery of a winemaker dedicated to excellence.
- Colour: Ruby red with some purple fringes.
- Nose: Aromas of glazed cherries, boysenberries, and forest floor, with hints of black pepper, spice, and new leather.
- Palate: Soft and round with medium weight, this Syrah leads with juicy berry fruit characters but is beautifully supported by fine tannins and a touch of lifted spice for a balanced and elegant finish.

This 2021 Syrah is a VEGAN Wine. See here to find out more about what makes a wine Vegan.
Food Pairings – Our 2021 Syrah is a versatile and elegant companion to a wide range of dishes. Its juicy berry flavours, fine tannins, and subtle spice make it an ideal match for grilled lamb chops with rosemary, slow-cooked beef stroganoff, or duck confit with a cherry glaze. For those who enjoy game meats, venison with a juniper and berry reduction is a must-try pairing.
Vegetarian options shine just as brightly with this Syrah. Wild mushroom risotto with thyme, roasted eggplant topped with tahini and pomegranate, or a hearty lentil and vegetable stew spiced with cumin will bring out the wine’s savoury complexity. For the cheese board, opt for aged cheddar, Gruyère, or a peppery blue cheese to highlight its rich, aromatic profile.
Picture a glass of this Syrah alongside a woodfired pizza with spicy sausage or a charcuterie board loaded with salami, prosciutto, and olives. It’s the perfect partner for both cosy dinners and lively gatherings, creating a true celebration of flavour!
